Mefloquina
(Mefloquine)
Use to prevent:
- Malaria: Adult dosage is one 250 mg tablet orally once a week. Take the first pill with food one week prior to departure and continue for four weeks after returning home.
Children’s use: Children over three months of age may be given 15 mg per kg body weight weekly.
Side effects and precautions: nausea, insomnia, dizziness, and abnormal dreams. Persons with a history of seizures, irregular heartbeat, or severe mental illness should not take this medication (see package insert for complete list of side effects and contraindications).
