Dear Drs. Page,

My husband, Mike, and I reside near Ensenada in Baja California. This March my husband suffered a heart attack. We phoned our regular doctor, who said we needed to urgently see a cardiologist but wasn’t sure where to send him. I knew the name of a hospital but was uncertain whether or not it was still open. My husband said “go check the Mexico: Health and Safety Travel Guide and see if the MedToGo doctors have recommended anyone. Yes!!!! The guide listed the hospital phone number as well as the cardiologist’s contact information, including his home phone number.

I phoned Dr. Susarrey at home at midnight and he told me to meet him at the hospital as fast as I could. Mike, who was suffering from a myocardial infarction, was taken directly from the front door to the Emergency Room, placed on oxygen and given an EKG within minutes of our arrival. He was then taken to surgery for an angiogram. The main artery to his heart was completely blocked. Dr. Susarrey and his surgical team did an angioplasty and put in a stent. My husband was back in his room in about four hours from the time we arrived.

Dr. Susarrey informed me that only 50% of the people who suffer from a myocardial infarction make it to the hospital and find medical attention on time. If I hadn’t had the information from the Mexico: Health and Safety Travel Guide, precious time would have been lost trying to locate a doctor and hospital could address the needs of cardio-patients – my husband would have died. The hospital provided great care, the nurses were very professional and Dr. Susarrey was our savior.
