US Embassy, Consulate and Consular Agency Services

Registration of U.S. Citizens in Mexico

North Americans living or traveling in Mexico are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate through the State Department’s Travel Registration Website.

North Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. By registering, you’ll make it easier for the embassy or consulate to contact you in case of emergency. The U.S. embassy is located in Mexico City at Paseo de la Reforma 305, Colonia Cuauhtemoc; telephone from the United States: 011-52-55-5080-2000; telephone within Mexico City: 5080-2000; telephone long distance within Mexico 01-55-5080-2000. You may also contact the embassy by e-mail at: ccs@usembassy.net.mx. The embassy’s Internet address is www.usembassy-mexico.gov/.

U. S. Embassies, Consulates and Consular Agency Services

The U.S. embassies and consulates throughout Mexico provide a wide range of services to foreign citizens traveling or residing in Mexico, including applications for passports, registration of citizens living in Mexico, information on voter’s registration, notary services for documents to be used in the home country, and certain emergency services relating to deaths, arrests, and temporary destitution. Contact the U.S. embassy for the following services:

U.S. Consulate General

U.S. Consulate offices are considered branch offices of the U.S. Embassy and offer the same services to American citizens traveling or residing in Mexico.

U.S. Consulate Agencies

U.S. Consulate Agencies are sub-branches of the U.S. Embassy. These are smaller offices that provide only basic consular services. You may also want to contact a consular agency if you have a specific concern about an incident taking place near that agency.

It is usually best to contact the embassy or consulate nearest you, since that office will be in the best position to offer you help or information. Embassy and consulate contact information is available throughout the MedToGo guide provided with each city’s information.
